About The Band

Crow

My name is Crow (they/them) and I sing & play rhythm guitar in Mega Mango. I also write the lyrics, chords, and melodies for all of our music! The first song I ever wrote was a collab with my cousins in the back of our gramma's car, named appropriately, "The Dum Dum Song." Gramma loved it so much, she made us all take an aspirin when we got home. That day sparked within me a true passion for songwriting.

Growing up, I always had some involvement with music and art. I did the obvious, like chorus, theatre, and band, but that interest expanded to all sorts of visual art, photography and film. I also loved to write short stories, poems, speeches…and songs, of course. I still love all of these things, but music and writing were the two that stuck with me the most. When I started writing music, I fell in love with what it feels like to make music with other people. So, as soon as I moved to Philly and met other musicians, Mega Mango was formed.

Alex

My name is Alex, (he/him) and I am the guitarist and producer of Mega Mango. I started playing guitar when I was 11 years old and started producing music at 15.  I remember working at the nearby Taco Bell to save up enough money for an iMac, which came with GarageBand preinstalled. Once I hit my goal I quit, bought the computer, and started making music. I discovered that I not only had a passion for playing music, but I absolutely loved producing it too.

After that, I began dedicating a lot of time towards improving my audio engineering and producing skills. I met Crow and Niko in freshman year of college and joined Mega Mango just after the release of “You Spent All Your Love”. It has been a trip, to say the least, getting to work with my friends and make music that we are proud of. I have also worked on a few other projects so far, one of which being diet lemon: which is my solo project and another addition to the Phruitcore genre. But who knows? If all this doesn’t work out, maybe Taco Bell will take me back.

Niko

Hey it’s Niko (he/him), i’m the bass player/ vibe technician for Mega Mango. I’ve been writing/performing music since I was about 10 years old, and started my first band in 6th grade. I come from a home of beach bums and burritos, salty air and surf rock. Growing up in a quiet little beach town I’ve always appreciated the simpler things to life; good food, close friends and novel experiences.

In high school we would throw house shows in our friends backyards, and one night there was a sea of people attending; some familiar faces but mostly strangers. Everyone was smiling, dancing with friends, laughing, and living in the present moment. After that night it felt like nothing else really mattered. It felt special to be a part of something people identified with, and that gave people energy to enjoy themselves. I’ve always appreciated being a part of a band and offering that out for people to connect with, so I’m glad you’re here and hopefully you stick around!

Sam

My name is Sam (he/him) and I play drums in Mega Mango!

My story starts in the Autumn of 2004. The leaves are falling, skinny jeans are in and The Spongebob Squarepants Movie has just been released in theaters to both critical acclaim and commercial success. This film made me a musician. You see, the movie ends with Spongebob playing guitar to defeat his foes with the power of music! This inspired me to pick up the guitar and eventually the drums as well. I spent my youth recording songs on my laptop, gigging at weddings and playing in garage rock bands.

Cut to 2018 and I'm in college for music. A friend recommends I check out this up-and-coming new band on campus called "Mega Mango." They'd just released their debut single - You Spent All Your Love - so I gave it a listen and immediately became a fan. I realized that I had a class with their bassist - Niko - so I mustered the courage to ask him for an audition to be their drummer. I’m still waiting to hear back, but I think they liked it!
